Nice photo postcard of the military brass band of the 94th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (C.E.F.) posing outdoors in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) on June 15th 1916.
The Battalion was recruited from Northwestern Ontario: Port Arthur, Fort William, Kenora, Rainy River, Fort Frances and Dryden.
Less than two weeks later, they were sailing for England from Halifax.
Interesting to note that the drummer appears to be wearing a leopard skin!

The 94th Battalion (New Ontario), CEF, was an infantry battalion of the Great War Canadian Expeditionary Force. The 94th Battalion was authorized on 22 December 1915 and embarked for Britain from Halifax on 28 June 1916 on board the Olympic, Its strength was 36 officers, 1009 other ranks. On 18 July 1916, its personnel were absorbed by the 17th Reserve Battalion, CEF and the 32nd Battalion, CEF, to provide reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field. The battalion disbanded on 27 July 1918.
The 94th Battalion recruited in Port Arthur, Fort William, Kenora, Rainy River, Fort Frances and Dryden, Ontario and was mobilized at Port Arthur.
The 94th Battalion was commanded by Lt.-Col. H.A.C. Machin from 28 June 1916 to 18 July 1916.
The 94th Battalion was awarded the battle honour THE GREAT WAR 1916.
